ThinkSolutions Selects Mexico as the Top Nearshoring Destination
ThinkSolutions released the Q1 2012 report of the Best Outsourcing Destinations in Latin America

ThinkSolutions, a management consulting firm with expertise in outsourcing, offshoring, and nearshoring, released its third quarterly report of “The Best Nearshoring Destinations.” For the third consecutive quarter, Mexico ranks first, but the growing prevalence of cartel-related violence in major cities threatens Mexico’s first place ranking. Chile lost its second place ranking due to an increase in wages and a decline in the strength of its democracy. With Chile in fourth place this quarter, Costa Rica and Colombia rose to the second and third place positions. With a strengthening infrastructure, a growing influx of capital, and low costs for experienced labor, Colombia has improved its ranking every quarter.
Each quarter, the firm ranks 19 Latin American countries based on their appeal as outsourcing and shared services destinations, scoring the countries on 19 objective criteria in three categories: Financial Incentives, Business Environment, and Labor Force. ThinkSolutions strategically selected and weighted criteria to emphasize the unique characteristics of Latin America such ascultural affinity, time zone alignment, and language capabilities.
Firms continue to leverage nearshoring as an effective strategy for both Information Technology(ITO) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). Executives continue to look to nearshoring for benefits in cost reduction, ease of management, and portfolio diversification, so the model aimed to reflect these interests of potential buyers. Nearshoring requires careful consideration of the business objectives and an effective governance approach to manage the relationships.
While other global sourcing indices are updated annually, the ThinkSolutions Nearshoring Destinations Index is updated quarterly or more often to reflect major events or changes in a country’s economic landscape. The model balances risk and reward by penalizing politically unstable countries with higher levels of risk, while also emphasizing criteria that depict the current quality of service in a country. Tony Mataya Chosen in Nearshore Americas Power 50
Nearshore Americas selected the top 50 most influential nearshoring professionals.

Nearshore Americas named industry advisor Tony Mataya among the top 50 influentialnearshoring professionals in the 2011 Power 50 ranking. Mr. Mataya was chosen for his understanding of the nearshoring climate as well as his “reliance on hard data to understand trends,” according to Nearshore Americas. Currently working as a managing partner forThinkSolutions, Mr. Mataya has over 25 years of IT and Business Process Outsourcing experience including several years working in Latin America. He is frequently sought after as a thought-leader in the nearshoring community. Last month, he keynoted at the NearshoreAmericas executive briefing and panel titled “Mexico’s Silicon Valley: Jalisco” and served on an expert panel discussing Brazil’s Nearshoring environment for the Outsourcing Institute.
ThinkSolutions recently published the Nearshore Destinations Index, a quarterly ranking of nineteen Latin American countries based on the business environment, labor skills & availability, and financial incentives in each country. Mr. Mataya and his team are responsible for the research and compilation of the index and other current nearshoring news.
